Cleansing FAQ
Q. Does it really matter what order I drink the juices?
A. The order in which you consume your juices affects how you absorb, assimilate, and digest nutrients. For example, when your stomach is empty first thing in the morning, it’s able to assimilate whatever you put in it much more than if you consumed something prior. That is why we always have a Green Juice, “GLOW” first. We follow that by our carrot based “FUEL”. Your body will absorb all of these great nutrients.
Q. Will I be hungry on a juice cleanse?
A. Yes, you probably will feel some hunger in the first day or two. This is completely normal and should pass as your body acclimates to consuming liquids only. Many times, the sensation we are feeling is not true hunger. The truth is, most of us can go days without solid food and be just fine. Usually, it is the feeling of an empty stomach or the ritual of eating at certain times that we mistake as hunger.
Q. Do I need to do any preparation before a cleanse?
A. It is recommended that you cut out alcohol, processed foods, excess salt, white flour and bread products, and refined sugar a day or two before the cleanse and load up on fresh fruits and veggies. This will make the transition a lot easier and help jump start the cleanse process.
Q. Are there any side effects to cleansing?
A. Some people experience headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and moodiness. This is completely normal and usually a sign that your body is detoxifying. As toxins exit the tissues and enter the bloodstream to be eliminated, you may actually feel like you are coming down with something. Drink lots of water and get plenty of rest and know that you will soon be feeling much better.
Q. Will I lose weight?
A. It is very common to lose weight on a juice cleanse. At 1200 calories per day, the Suja cleanse gives your body a chance to rest digestion and get to work on stored fat and undigested proteins in the GI tract.
Q. How many calories are in a cleanse?
A. Our standard six juice per day cleanse has about 1,250 calories. Please remember that these calories are “good” calories with no additives, just the raw organic produce.
Q. Can I cleanse if I am pregnant or nursing?
A. Drinking our juices while you are cleansing is great. However we don’t recommend juice only diets while you are pregnant or nursing. You actually need a lot of calories while you are pregnant or nursing.
Q. Is it OK to exercise while cleansing?
A. Absolutely! Exercise supports the detox process by removing acids from your body. Just remember if you are doing heavy exercise that you need to consume more calories to balance it.
Q. What are detox symptoms? Will I get them?
A. To make room for the new material, the "bad stuff" needs to leave; how it makes its exit is your potential crisis. For example: when the body eliminates coffee, symptoms usually include headaches, nervousness, and shakiness. When protein, meats, and fats are eliminated, you may experience skin eruptions, foul body odor, or a coated tongue.
Q. I’ve heard that our bodies naturally cleanse themselves. If this is true then why should I cleanse with Suja?
A. Its true that our bodies do cleanse naturally. However by doing one of our cleanses you not only give your body a break but you also bring balance and perspective back into your life and reposition yourself for a healthy lifestyle.
Q. How will I feel on the cleanse?
A. While we hope that you're a lucky one who feels great from the start, usually detoxing effects get worse before getting better. Depending on how many toxins your tissues are holding, reactions range from mild to non-existent to strong and relatively harsh. Detox symptoms include things like headaches, nausea, sweats, PMS-like symptoms, and more. As best you can, take a "this too shall pass" mindset and increase the alkaline water to flush the releasing toxic matter. You can also get fresh air, walk, move, and/or take a hot bath.
Q. I don't have much time, but I'd like to cleanse. Is it useful to do a cleanse for just one day?
A. Absolutely! One day can be very helpful. For some, a brief cleanse can be a confidence-building exercise that leads to more intensive cleanses. Others might add one day a week ongoing. It's ALWAYS good to add more fresh, ripe, raw, organic, plant-based food and juices and if you only have 24 hours, you'll still reap the benefits.
Q. During a cleanse can I have seltzer or sparkling water? Gum? Tea?
A. We recommend consuming exclusively fresh fruit and vegetable juices and plain, pure water. However, we understand that cleansing can be challenging and sometimes you just need a little something. The best option is to consume decaf herbal teas. Sparkling water is ok, as long as it has no added ingredients. Gum is not recommended as it usually contains chemicals.
Q. What do I eat when I finish my cleanse?
A. The first meals out of your cleanse should be hydrating and light. Your digestive tract has been resting, so you don’t want to jolt it awake immediately. You want to slowly ease it back into operation. Blended smoothies, soups, and salads are all great choices. Re-introduce heavier proteins and higher fat foods slowly and one at a time over a couple days following your cleanse.
