The Dirty Dozen: 12 foods you should buy organic in 2015!

Suja Juice Dirty Dozen 2015We always recommend buying local, organic fruits and vegetables, but we also know that that isn't feasible for everyone all the time. Whether you have budgetary limitations or organic options just aren't easily accessible, it’s sometimes easier said than done to buy all of your produce organic. Every year, The Environmental Working Group (EWG) releases a list of 12 foods called the "Dirty Dozen" that are most likely to contain pesticides. When possible, buy these organic! There's also a "Clean Fifteen" group of foods that are least likely to contain pesticides, so you don't have to worry too much about always buying these organic 100% of the time if you find yourself having to pick and choose. We'll publish that list in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime you can view it here. Here are the 12 fruits and veggies most likely to contain pesticide residues in 2015:

Dirty Dozen 2015

  • Apples
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Grapes
  • Celery
  • Spinach
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Snap peas (imported)
  • Potatoes
If there's one thing we learned in the last few years, it's that you should always buy apples organic! They topped this list 4 years in a row, with almost every sample (99%) testing positive for at least one pesticide. Cheers, Sam Swensen & Suja Juice
